A next generation technology for effective treatment of Water and wastewater
Technology Features
♦ CSIR-NCL, a premier scientific research lab of Government of India has patented novel device, a vortex diode based on cavitation technology,
for water and waste water treatment.
♦ Cavitation is the formation, growth and collapse of cavities/ bubbles.
♦ Vortex diode uses rotational flow to generate cavitation.
♦ Collapse of cavities takes place in very short interval of time, usually microseconds
♦ Causes generating very high pressure & temperature and generates highly reactive hydroxyl radicals.
♦ This hydroxyl radical is responsible for oxidation of organic compound leading to destruction of contaminants and decolourisation.
♦ Green Technology: no added chemicals, UV or ultrasound.
♦ Vortex diodes do not have any moving components, offer better performance and are for more durable.
♦ No harmful by-products
♦ Effluent is drawn from the tank and processed through the vortex diode multiple times before it is discharged to downstream processing.
♦ Smallest footprint: vortex diode can be fitted in-line
♦ Less cost: vortex diode offers significantly lower operating costs than other competing technologies.
♦ Systematic testing at lab, pilot, and plant scale have shown good results
♦ Can be coupled with existing water or waste water treatment plant or can be synergistically combined with other advance oxidation
technologies which will improves efficiency of anaerobic as well as aerobic digester.
Application-
♦ Disinfectant - water treatment
♦ Sea water treatment
♦ Stable aerobic wastewater treatment
♦ Ship’s ballast water treatment
♦ Enhance performance of anaerobic digesters (enhanced gas generation about 10-15 %, better COD reduction) and increase biodegradability of
effluent (BOD: COD ratio)
♦ Reduce COD, Ammonical nitrogen, reduction in heavy metals, scale formation, microbial count and colour.
♦ Destruct refractory organics
♦ Handle shock/ fluctuating loads
♦ Optimization & scale-up of water and waste water treatment plant
